Saint Joseph’s East Georgia Announces Updated Plans for New Hospital

GREENSBORO (January 20, 2010) – Saint Joseph’s East Georgia this week announced updated building plans for its new facility in Greensboro as well as new services set to begin at the current location this year.

The latest renderings of the new hospital reveal a state-of-the art campus with ‘lake architecture,’ slightly smaller in scale than the original plan, at 80-90 thousand square feet.  The new 52-million dollar hospital will include 25-inpatient beds with unlimited outpatient capacity.  The hospital will be built to allow for expansion to 80 rooms and will provide cutting-edge operating rooms, imaging and emergency treatment facilities.

Minor changes have been made to the plan to make it more efficient, according to SJEG President, Mike Huff.  “We resized the plan a bit to ensure continued financial sustainability and to increase functionality,” says Huff, “but it’s the same leading-edge hospital in the same great place. We simply needed to account for the possibility of looming changes at the Federal level with healthcare, the proposed hospital bed tax bill here in Georgia, and be mindful of the current economic climate.”

Hospital leaders also announced new services that are planned for 2010 which include a new Hospitalist Program to provide 24/7 personal care to patients and a new Breast Center located at Cowles Clinic that will have digital mammography and be staffed with a fulltime general breast surgeon.  Also joining the staff are two new fulltime physicians: Dr. Eric Silver, Gynecologist, who begins August first, and Dr. Scott Johnson, Orthopedic Surgeon.

These announcements follow the 2009 employment of fulltime Emergency Room physicians at SJEG, who have staffed the ER at Saint Joseph’s Atlanta for two decades.  The critical care experience of this team means Saint Joseph’s East Georgia hospital provides the highest-level of Emergency Services.
