GREENSBORO (October 1, 2009) – It’s been shown that early detection and treatment are essential for improving a woman’s chance of surviving breast cancer, now the second leading cause of cancer death in American women today.
October has been designated as Breast Cancer Awareness Month to remind women of the prevalence of this cancer and the importance of its early detection and treatment.
Throughout this month, Saint Joseph’s East Georgia is joining the effort to raise awareness locally and encouraging women to take steps toward regular screenings.
Mammogram studies are crucial to the early detection of breast cancer and doctors recommend women begin them at age 40, or sooner if there is a family history of breast cancer.
To help make sure every woman in the community has the opportunity to be screened, Saint Joseph’s East Georgia is offering a 20 percent discount on mammograms during October. The discount would also apply, if needed, to additional mammogram views or breast ultrasounds.
The hospital offers the softer MammoPad cushion which helps to eliminate discomfort during the screening.
For more information or to schedule a screening, contact Saint Joseph’s East Georgia at (706) 453-5005.
